First federal trial for the assault on the Capitol ends in conviction

A US jury found Tuesday the Far-right Guy Reffitt guilty of five counts related to the 2021 Capitol stormingamong them obstruction to the certification of the presidential elections and transportation of arms.

Reffitt, 49, a member of the far-right organization Three Percenters, was found guilty of the five crimes he was charged with.

The three other charges were for entering the Capitol with a weapon, confronting police officers and threatening his three teenage children. if they reported him, crimes of which he had pleaded not guilty.

The firm sentence by the judge is scheduled for June 8.

According to photographs attached to a court document, Reffitt, a native of Texas, attended the Capitol assault wearing a bulletproof vest, handcuffs and a helmet with an embedded camera.

Until now, all those convicted of the assault on the Capitol on January 6 of last year had closed plea deals with the Prosecutor’s Office, so they were spared the trial.
