Avianca confirms order for 88 new A320neo aircraft to Airbus

Colombian airline Avianca confirmed the purchase order for 88 new A320neo aircraft from the European manufacturer Airbuswhat They will be incorporated into its fleet between 2025 and 2031, the company announced on Tuesday.

The agreement between the airline and Airbus also includes the option to purchase 50 additional aircraft of that model.

According to Avianca, with the 88 new A320neo, it will be able to continue offering its customers flights of the highest quality, “while optimizing its operation thanks to the efficiency and productivity of this aircraft”, which also allows for a more sustainable operation because consumes 20% less fuel than similar aircraft.

“This is good news for our company, our people and our customers, considering that the family A320neo is the most advanced single-aisle fleet in terms of efficiency, reliability and comfort”, said the financial director of Avianca, Rohit Philip, quoted in a statement.

Philip added that this order confirms that Avianca, which last year completed its financial restructuring to get out of Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy law, is making the necessary investments for the growth of its route network.

Avianca’s business plan includes the operation of more than 200 routes mostly point to point and a fleet of more than 130 aircraft by 2025.

The 88 Airbus A320neo aircraft will join the more than 110 that Avianca has in its passenger operation, the most complete in Colombia and one of the largest in Latin America, with a network of 120 routes and more than 3,200 weekly flightsadded the company.

“The A320neo incorporates the latest technologies, including new generation engines,” said the president of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribbean, Arturo Barreira.

Barreira highlighted that the A320neo, which have the widest single-aisle cabin in its class, “offer 20% fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous generation Airbus aircraft”. (I)
