A child from Mariúpol, in southern Ukraine, has died of dehydration during the siege of the city by Russian troops. This has been confirmed by the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, who has called to reflect on something like this happening in 2022 in Europe.
After 12 days of war, civilians begin to suffer the consequences of an invasion that destroys their lives beyond the bombs. Barely being able to go out on the street, with food reserves exhausted and, on many occasions, without electricity or watersurvival becomes more complex day by day.
“In Mariupol, for the first time in decades, probably for the first time since the Nazi invasion, a child has died of dehydration,” the president said. “Listen to me: today a child died of dehydration. In 2022,” Zelensky insisted in a message to the Ukrainian population.
Last Sunday, the Ukrainian authorities denounced that about 40 children had died and more than 70 had been wounded from February 24 to date in the framework of the Russian invasion. A figure that is expected to be much higher, and to which we should add the deaths of several children in a bombing in Sumy this very morning.
