Images of the horror in Ukraine: a war full of pain and destruction seen from within

On the thirteenth day of the war in Ukraine, Russia continues with the offensive despite the agreed ceasefire to allow the evacuation of the civilian population to safer areas. A population devastated by the situation, surrounded by destruction, chaos, confusion and terror at every step it takes; a population that has had to leave behind everything that until now made up its life in imminent danger of death by a bombardment or attack by Russian troops. The cameras are direct witness of it.

Throughout the days of conflict, there are many photojournalists and photography enthusiasts who have managed to portray with great empathy and detail the tragedy of a war seen from within, especially when the civilian population becomes, consciously or collaterally, target of this aggression warlike The images show it: houses, vehicles, public infrastructure, all reduced to rubble.

The situation is being especially critical in the cities located further east in Ukraine: Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernigov, Zaporizhia, Odessa or Sumy they have already fallen victim to the Russian offensive. Even Kiev, the country’s capital, continues to come under constant attack as soldiers commanded by Putin continue their efforts to encircle the city to gain control of it. The result: the civilian population, once again a victim.

According to the UN, more than two million people have already become refugees of the war, escaping as best they can from the points of greatest tension towards neighboring countries. In this sense, UNICEF estimates that about half of that figure is made up of minors who, like adults, are forced to live through the horrors of war without looking back so as not to be hit by an attack. The life of all of them has now been reduced to fire, rubble, ash, dust. To nothing.
