Peruvians will seek to study in the US before in Eastern European countries due to war

The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the political tensions with the countries of Eastern Europe will reduce the interest of Peruvians in studying in that region, which will increase the demand to study in the United States.

This was estimated by Michelle Juárez Maquet, manager of New Business at GSG Education, an advisory institute for young people who are interested in studying abroad.

“Definitely, an issue as complicated as what is happening in Ukraine affects the decision to travel to European countries; however, there are many options in the USA, so we believe that the option to travel to the USA will increase this year”, he said.

The specialist indicated that in 2021 the demand for young people to study abroad grew, compared to 2020.

“Our growth in application volume was over +140% in applications to universities in the US, UK and Canada. This fueled not only by the expectation of face-to-face reactivation, but also by the local instability situation that has made many families open their options abroad, ”he pointed out.

“Foreign universities, after the drop in demand in 2020, have sought to increase the percentage of international students through incentives such as scholarships and financing, which allowed us to receive more than US$ 2 million in scholarships for our students during 2021”, Michelle Juarez added.

Likewise, he indicated that classes abroad in the main markets such as the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom have once again been 100% face-to-face. “However, they have kept a hybrid component that allows students to choose the virtual option in a percentage of their classes,” she said.

The big difference now is in the admission requirements, where most universities have chosen to give the SAT exam (university entrance exam in the USA) as an option.

“However, the requirement of an English exam is still mandatory despite having been relaxed with a greater offer of providers of these exams in the market that are now accepted by foreign study houses,” he stressed.

In the case of GMAT, for MBA programs and some engineering and finance postgraduate courses, it also maintains the mandatory category for top universities; In addition, “some study houses have chosen to take their own equivalent internal exams,” noted Michelle Juárez.

Salary Comparison

Based on the latest reports developed by the Ponte en Carrera portal and PayScale Data, GSG Education prepared a comparative table showing that Peruvian graduates from engineering-related careers can earn up to five times more if they decide to study at a foreign university. .

He indicated that careers such as Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical or Chemistry have become more appealing to young people due to the exposure they obtained for issues related to COVID-19, and that they have made visible the scope that professionals can have in various study fields.

“In response to this new interest, students and parents will be able to choose from a greater number of universities and compare the benefits not only in monetary terms, but also in job opportunities and professional growth through our partner university base,” said Juárez. .

Next, we present the best paid engineering careers in the most outstanding universities in Peru and the United States, according to studies carried out by Ponte En Carrera and PayScale Data, respectively:
