ACNUR assures that it is the fastest exodus of refugees in Europe since World War II.
More than 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees have crossed into neighboring countries since the start of the Russian invasion ten days ago, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed on Sunday, in what it has described as the fastest growing exodus in Europe since World War II.
In the absence of the specific update of the international balance for this Sunday, Poland has welcomed more than half of the total refugee population: almost 925,000 since the beginning of the Russian incursion.
Another 37,800 refugees have arrived in Germany since the beginning of the invasion, the country’s interior ministry has confirmed.
To this figure must be added the 181,000 declared by Moscow (including 48,000 children) who are now in Russian territory, according to figures published this Sunday by the Russian security forces and collected by the TASS agency.
