Danny and Natalia’s escape after the attack on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant: “We only took a backpack with documents”

Russia has taken command of the Zaporizhia nuclear plant, the largest in Europe. A bombardment at dawn this Friday has caused a fire that has activated all the alarms due to the risk of suffering a catastrophe.

Among the citizens who are trying to flee the city are Danny and Natalia. This couple has tried to take a train, but the Army only allowed entry to children and women and they have not wanted to separate.

This is how they explained it in an interview in Más Vale Tarde. “I was at the door of the train and a soldier told me no, that only children and women could enter. My wife has had the opportunity to leave, but we don’t want to separate,” Danny explained.

Now, as Natalia tells us, they are “without direction” and desperately trying to flee the country. “We are aimless. We had a goal, a house and we have only been able to take a backpack with documents,” she said after assuring that he feels that he is betraying his family, who remains in Ukraine.

In the video that accompanies these lines, they also narrate that the Russian Army is “Destroying maternity hospitals and attacking the civilian population.”

On Friday afternoon, the United States delegate to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, assured that Russian troops are 32 kilometers away -and getting closer- to the second largest nuclear power plant in the country. This means that the situation of “imminent danger” is maintained.
