The French mining group Eramet announced that it will invest US$400 million in a lithium in the province Argentina of Salta, in the northwest of the country.
The investment project was presented by the president and executive director of Eramet, Christel Bories, in a meeting with the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, at the Casa Rosada, headquarters of the Argentine Executive.
The French mining group plans to build a lithium plant in the province of Salta, with an investment of US$400 million, “within the framework of the program carried out by the national government for the development of the exploitation and industrialization of this mineral.” the Argentine government said in a statement.
“With this project, Argentina in this administration has already had nine projects announced and works started for more than US$4.8 billion, which marks a true investment leap unprecedented in the history of the country in this product that is highly demanded because it is going to be the basis of the entire electromobility revolution worldwide”, said the Argentine Minister of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas.
For her part, the Secretary of Mining, Fernanda Ávila, pointed out that with this new investment, Argentina, which has large lithium reserves, “is positioned as a central actor facing 2030 in the energy transition, in clean energies, vital today for the whole world”.
According to the Eranet authorities, the construction of the plant would begin at the beginning of next June, with a view to starting production in 2024.
According to the statement from the Argentine Government, it is estimated that this new production project will generate some 2,000 jobs.
