The UN will create an independent international commission to investigate war crimes in Ukraine

The vote in the United Nations Human Rights Council has resulted in 32 votes in favor, two against and 13 abstentions.

The United Nations Human Rights Council announced this Friday its decision to create an independent international commission to investigate human rights violations in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The resolution has been approved with 32 votes in favor, 13 abstentions (including China, Cuba and Venezuela) and only two votes against (Russia and Eritrea). The United Nations Human Rights Council is made up of 47 countries.

Thus, Russia and Eritrea have voted againstwhile Armenia, Bolivia, Cameroon, China, Gabon, India, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Pakistan, Sudan, Uzbekistan and Venezuela have abstained.

In favor Ukraine, Germany, Argentina, Benin, Brazil, South Korea, Ivory Coast, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United States, Finland, France, Gambia, Honduras, Indonesia, Marshall Islands, Japan, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg have voted , Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mexico, Montenegro, Nepal, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Poland, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Senegal and Somalia.
