Emmanuel Macron will seek re-election as president of France

On Thursday afternoon, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that he will seek a second term in the April election, in a “Letter to the French” published by various media outlets.

“I am a candidate,” writes Macron, who acknowledges, as his rivals fear, that he will not be able to campaign “as (he) would have liked” because of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, although he promises to “explain” his project “clearly ”.

Macron came to power in 2017 after beating Marine Le Pen, commonly associated with the extreme right or classic and hard right, in the second round.

Macron is the youngest president that the French Republic has had, since when he took office he was 39 years old.

He identifies with liberalism, although he entered politics as a minister for the Social Democrat Francoise Holland and during the pandemic he has imposed harsh restrictions for which he has been criticized and also applauded.

In recent weeks, he has returned to international headlines for being in continuous contact with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to try to reduce the armed conflict of the invasion of Ukraine, although he has not been successful.

Despite this, it has approved and supported the sending of humanitarian and military aid to the Ukrainian government to try to defend itself until some kind of agreement is reached to stop the war.

In addition, the title of president of France is accompanied by that of co-prince of Andorra. (I)
