The French Government has announced the end of the masks in closed spaces and the vaccination certificate from March 14.
Citizens will be able to stop using this protection element in most spaces where it was still mandatory, although it will continue to be required in public transport and in health centers, according to ‘BFM TV’.
The vaccination certificate will also decline, which will only be requested to access hospitals. Compulsory vaccination will also remain in force.
The French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, has celebrated that these measures are possible thanks to the fact that the health situation has improved in recent weeks, as a result of “the collective efforts” of French society.
Previously, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, had set a series of criteria to withdraw the vaccination certificate, such as lowering the number of patients in intensive care to less than 1,500, having a cumulative incidence of less than 500 positives per 100,000 inhabitants and a virus spread rate less than one.
Today France has 2,329 seriously ill patients and an incidence of 584, therefore, the requirements set by Véran have not yet been met. However, the country’s authorities consider that the trend of the pandemic has remained downward in recent days. In fact, the incidence has been reduced by almost 30% in the last week.
France has confirmed more than 22.2 million infections since the start of the pandemic, which has caused the death of more than 136,000 people. The last wave of infections, caused by the omicron variant, left figures above 330,000 daily positives.
