Toyota suspends operations in Russia due to supply interruptions

Toyota Motor announced that it is suspending “until new notice” its operations in Russia, due to the “supply chain disruptions” and in the face of the impact of international sanctions on Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.

The Japanese manufacturer has announced in a statement that it stops, from March 4 and until further notice, production at its plant in Saint Petersburg as well as the importation of vehicles, “due to supply chain disruptions”.

The Japanese car manufacturer also stated that the rest of its production and sales operations in the rest of Europe “are not affected“, it’s a statement.

According to the company, Toyota has 168 sales and service points in Russia and a factory in the city of Saint Petersburg, with the capacity to produce 100,000 vehicles annually and where the Rav4 and Camry models are manufactured, mainly for the Russian domestic market. .

The Japanese automobile leader started vehicle production in Russia in 2007, having produced 80,000 vehicles last year.

Toyota also suspended all its activities in Ukraine on February 24, where it has 37 sales points.

Honda Motor has suspended the shipment of vehicles and motorcycles to Russia, although in this case the company had already planned to stop its exports to Russia earlier and from April this year, due to the continuous drop in sales.

Mazda Motor would plan, for its part, to stop the export of components to its factory located in the east of the country due to fear of sanctions that financially isolate Russia, according to information collected by the local agency Kyodo.
