The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, spoke this Thursday on Al Rojo Vivo about the recent arrest of journalist Pablo González when he was covering information on the war in Ukraine and accounting for the mass exodus of people as a result of the Russian invasion. The head of the Government has confirmed that they have already had verbal communication of his arrest of González.
“It is located many kilometers from Warsaw, which is where the consulate and the embassy are,” added Albares. As he explained, the reporter has already gone to court and is in court. In this sense, Albares has indicated that the next step regarding this issue is to wait for the communication with the charges against González to arrive in writing to pay consular attention.
The Foreign Minister has thus assured that the Government will “enter into contact with him” to help him in everything necessary until he regains his freedom: “We will offer consular assistance and assist you in everythingas we do with all Spaniards who are detained”. Pablo González was arrested in Poland several days ago, although the reasons for his arrest are unknown at the moment.
It was the lawyer Gonzalo Boye who gave notice of his arrest through social networks. “My client, the Spanish journalist Pablo González, has been arrested in Poland for doing his work, We demand that his physical integrity and his immediate release be guaranteed.. Without freedom of the press there is no democracy,” Boye himself denounced in a message posted on Twitter.
