The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, promised today rebuild the country when the war is over and demanded that Russia pay for all the destruction that the Russian invasion is causing.
In a new speech, the Ukrainian president assured that the State will restore “every house, every street, every city.” “And we say to Russia: teach (the population) the words ‘reparations’ and ‘contributions,'” he said.
The president made these statements after Russian forces yesterday bombed the Assumption Cathedral in Kharkov, the second largest city in Ukraine and located in the east of the country.
“The Kharkov Cathedral of the Assumption was damaged as a result of shelling. Windows and stained glass are broken, church furniture and decorations damaged. The people sheltering inside (from the attacks) were not injured.”the church said in a Facebook message.
“It is one of the oldest Orthodox monuments in the city and in Ukraine. It is a sacred place. Now it has been hit by war. They are not even afraid of (resorting to) that“, he said about the Russian forces.
“But God sees and responds to everything. There is no bunker to survive God’s response. And we will restore the cathedral so that no trace of war remains there. And even if you destroy all our Ukrainian cathedrals and churches, they will not destroy our sincere faith, faith in Ukraine and in God,” Zelensky added.
The Ukrainian president claimed that Russia “destroys our people, takes away everything that is dear to us, cuts off electricity, water, heating to civilians in Ukraine, leaves people without food and medicine, and fires on roads evacuation”. “There are no weapons that I have not used”, he added.
He considered it cynical that Russia is now telling “its propagandists” that they are going to send “humanitarian columns” to Ukraine, after promising to establish corridors to allow the population to leave besieged or surrounded cities, such as Kharkov, Kherson, Mariupol or Kiev.
