The director of the Russian opposition television channel “Dozhd”, Tíjon Dzyadkó, reported that he is leaving Russia along with some employees of the channel after being blocked for coverage of the Russian campaign in Ukraine.
“I have made the decision to leave Russia. It has also been taken by a number of newsroom workers. After the illegal blocking of the website and accounts of ‘Dozhd’ on social networks, and threats received by some employees, it is evident that our personal security is in danger, ”he wrote on his Telegram account.
He added that “Dozhd” plans to appeal the sanction and continue working, albeit remotely.
According to the director of the outlet, “Dozhd”, declared a foreign agent in Russia, had not broken the laws, so there was no reason for his blocking.
Russian communications regulator Roscomnadzor on Tuesday blocked the broadcasts and websites of the “Echo of Moscow” radio and the “Dozhd” television channel, both of which are critical of the Kremlin.
Roscomnadzor’s decision was prompted by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, which accused the media of deliberately and systematically publishing “calls for extremist actions, violence, and false information about the actions of the Russian military in the operation special”, in Ukraine.
The director of “Echo of Moscow”, Alexei Venedíktov, announced that he will appeal the regulator’s decision, which he considered as “the implementation of censorship, which is expressly prohibited by the Constitution.”
Despite the official blockade, the station continues to broadcast on the internet on other platforms, such as YouTube.
