Sweden accuses Russian warplanes of violating its airspace

Four Russian fighters reportedly briefly violated the airspace over the Baltic Sea this Wednesday, as reported by the Swedish Armed Forces in a release.

“In light of the current situation, we take this incident very seriously“, Indicates the note, which adds that the events occurred briefly east of the Swedish island of Gotland.

The head of the Swedish air force, Carl-Johan Edström, has called the incident “unprofessional and irresponsible action by Russia“. “This shows that our preparation is good. We were there to ensure the territorial integrity and borders of Sweden. We are in full control of the situation“, he assured.

The incident occurs on the verge of seven days after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and after last Friday, Moscow warned Finland and Sweden about what its accession to NATO would entail “serious political-military repercussions” that they would demand “an answer” from Moscow.
