Russia assured today that its delegation is going to the Belarusian city of Gomel, near the Ukrainian border, to negotiate a possible cessation of hostilities with Ukraine, which would have accepted the meeting.
According to the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinskyare heading from Minsk to Gomel, and a Ukrainian mission is doing the same from Kiev.
“Our entire delegation is now leaving for the Gomel region”, affirmed the Russian negotiator, quoted by the TASS agency.
“At the moment the route is being drawn up to choose the place in the Gomel region where maximum security will be guaranteed for the Ukrainian sideMedinsky noted.
According to the official Belarusian agency Belta, the negotiations are scheduled to take place “in the Gomel region, on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.”
For his part, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, stated that the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine, Alexander Lukashenko and Volodymyr Zelenskiy, spoke by phone and that after that, Lukashenko asked his Russian colleague, Vladimir Putin, not to withdraw the Russian delegation waiting in Minsk.
“Lukashenko called Putin and asked him not to withdraw the Russian delegation because he received signals from the Ukrainian side, which expressed its willingness to travel to the Gomel region for talks.Peskov said.
