the american platform airbnb announced on Monday that it would offer free short-term accommodation for 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion.
Those accommodations will be financed by the company, donors to the Airbnb fund for refugees and hosts.
Separately, Airbnb said it is working with the governments of several European countries to accommodate Ukrainian refugees, including in long-term accommodation.
The platform manager Brian Chesky, and other officials of the firm sent letters to leaders of Poland, Germany, Hungary and Romania.
Since the start of the Russian offensive, some 400,000 Ukrainians have entered the European Union, according to a count by the AFP.
Nearly half of them arrived in Poland, according to the Polish government.
Airbnb had already offered help last August to Afghans seeking to flee their country following the Taliban takeover. The site announced on Tuesday that it had managed to host to more than 21,000 Afghan refugees for free.
The platform set itself the goal of providing temporary accommodation to an additional 20,000 refugees from Afghanistan, Africa, the Middle East, Central America and South America. (I)
