Russia claims to have taken control of the cities of Berdyansk and Energodar, as well as the Zaporozhie power plant, located in the latter. The Ukrainian Armed Forces assure, however, that the Russian troops are “demoralized and exhausted”.
The authorities of Russia They have assured this Monday that they have taken the control of the nuclear power plant Zaporozhye, the largest in Europe, days after taking over the Chernobyl facilities, as part of the offensive launched on February 24 against the neighboring country.
“The Russian Armed Forces fully protect and control the Zaporozhie nuclear plant area,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a press conference.
Likewise, he has stated that the staff of the plant continues to work normally and has added that the Russian forces have also taken the cities of Energodar -where the aforementioned plant is located- and Berdyansk.
Shortly before, the Berdyansk authorities had confirmed that Russian troops had taken control of the city, located in the southeast of the country – between the Crimean peninsula and the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have however pointed out that Russian troops have so far failed in their attempt to take the capital, Kiev. “The enemy suffered significant losses in personnel. Russian troops are demoralized and exhausted,” said Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Alexander Syrsky.
