Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said today that the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel it should be chosen by the leaders of the European Union (EU) and NATO to mediate in the war with Ukraine unleashed by Russia.
“She is the only one who can speak and be heard in Moscow, Washington and all the capitals. Are we going to put it aside while the world falls apart? ”, Renzi asks in an interview published this Sunday by the Italian newspaper The stamp.
The former head of government affirms that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has unleashed this military offensive because “he has a clear strategy: he wants to build a new world order with China.”
He says that Putin is looking to the future and that in that future “the concepts of democracy, human rights and popular sovereignty are different from those that Western democracies have built in the last century.”
“We are not dealing with the madness of a leader, but with his extremely dangerous but also terribly lucid plan,” he maintains.
The president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has already offered himself to Putin to mediate in the conflict and “decrease tensions” in Ukraine.
Ukraine has confirmed that it will send a delegation to negotiate with Russia on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, along the Pripyat River, the office of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky reported. (I)
