Germany prepares to protect his country from the threat of Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this Sunday that he will allocate a single extraordinary item of 100,000 million euros to equip the German armed forces. In addition, he has reported that he will increase the defense spending of the country to more than 2% of its economic output.
“We will have to invest more in the security of our country to protect our freedom and democracy,” Scholz told a special session of the Bundestag in Berlin on Sunday morning due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This decision turns its defense policies on its head, as the country has long resisted pressure from the United States and other countries to increase spending due to its bloody 20th-century history and the resulting strong pacifism among its population
Likewise, Scholz warns Putin that he should not underestimate the determination of the West, while referring to the “great challenge” of prevent the war waged by the head of the Kremlin in Ukraine move to other European countries.
“We stick to our duty of assistance in NATO without any buts. I have also said this to our allies in Central and Eastern Europe who fear for their safety. Putin should not underestimate our determination to defend together with our allies every square meter of territory of the Alliance,” he told the Bundestag.
