Romania joins the countries that closed their airspace to all Russian planes

Romania on Saturday closed its airspace to Russian airlines and repatriated its diplomatic staff from Kiev, after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Romanian airspace has been closed to all regular flights, with or without landing at national airports, for all operators registered in the Russian Federation”, indicated the civil aeronautical authority, and specified that this measure does not apply to humanitarian and emergency flights, which came into force at 1:00 p.m. GMT.

Several countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Estonia, they have also closed their airspace to Russian operators.

Russia reacted on Saturday and banned aircraft linked to Warsaw, Prague and Sofia.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry also announced that repatriated its diplomatic staffcomposed of about 15 members, and suspended the activity of the embassy in Kiev.

“This decision is a consequence of the escalation of the security situation in Ukraine and in particular in Kiev”, stressed the Romanian government. (I)
