José Andrés travels to Ukraine to feed Ukrainian refugees

The NGO World Central Kitchen of the Asturian chef Jose Andres has moved to the border between Ukraine and Poland to feed the people who are leaving the country attacked by the Russian Government of Vladimir Putinwhom the chef has described as a “thug” on his social networks.

Through Twitter, the NGO has announced that it is currently at the train station between the Ukrainian and Polish border “where many families sleep” and its intention is to expand efforts “quickly to serve hundreds of thousands here and in Romania“.

“Let’s build a longer table, let’s not bomb everyone!”, raised José Andrés, who also wrote: “It is so sad to see how the Democracies of the world look the other way! Putin is a bully… and we are letting him slaughter the little brother…when we shut up and look to the side, do the bad guys always win?

In another message, the cook added that he feels we should go into Ukraine like Gandhi and sit in front of Russian forces and say, “We love you. You don’t have to do this! Putin is not Russia“. In response to requests on networks to send donations for the cause, Andrés has asked for patience because “with our boots on the ground we will learn more about what and how we will help”.

In 2010, the Asturian chef founded the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) with his wife with the aim of “using food to empower communities and strengthen economies“, and has been awarded for his humanitarian work with the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord in 2021; during the coronavirus pandemic he distributed more than three million meals in Spain and more than 30 million in the United States.
