France intercepts a freighter in the English Channel due to sanctions on Russia

The French Navy has intercepted in the waters of the English Channel a freighter heading to St. Petersburg Suspecting that he might be incurring a violation of the sanctions adopted this week by the EU, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The ship, which carries cars, has been escorted to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, in northern France, according to sources quoted by the British network BBC. The Gallic Government suspects that it belongs to a company that is in the EU blacklist.

The Russian Embassy in Paris has confirmed the interception to the Sputnik agency, explaining that it had received an emergency call from the captain of the ship in which he warned of the movements of the French authorities.

The consular service of the Embassy has already contacted the French authorities in search of explanations. “The results will be announced later”the legation has affirmed.
