The pain of the Ukrainians in Spain: “My children have told me that they are going to fight in the war against Russia”

Mariana is one Ukrainian living in Spain, although their children remained in their country of origin. He demonstrates in front of the Russian Embassy in Madrid with his mask soaked with tears. Her children have told her what she didn’t want to hear: “As a mother, I don’t want to lose my children. They told me that they are going to fight, that they are not going to leave their country“.

At the same demonstration, Galina carries a banner that she has brought from home. She lives in Spain and the money she earns from it is sent to her son, a soldier. She knows that she is going to have to fight and she is very worried. “It’s the only son I have”he says, crying.

There are dozens of people affected by what is happening in their country of origin. Andrei talks to his mother through a video call. She explains that they have bombed the military airport next to her town: “He says that in the morning the planes have been heard”. Meanwhile, Dana screams as she waves her anti-Putin banner. And Tania is the most upset: her husband is a soldier and, from today, he goes to war. That’s why when she sees a worker enter the Embassy, she throws herself against him.

For their part, dozens of Ukrainian families wait at El Prat airport for the planes to arrive with their relatives. They search their phones and wait for the answers to their questions: about their flights, about their family… But the airspace is still closed.
