President of Ukraine decrees general mobilization for war with Russia and imposes martial law

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, today decreed the general mobilization of all persons of age to serve in the Army for the war which Russia began this Thursday against the country.

“The draft Law on Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine ‘On General Mobilization’ was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Parliament)” for adoption, the Legislature reported on its official Telegram account.

Previously Zelenski had today introduced martial law throughout the country after the start of the military operation by Russia.

“We impose martial law throughout the territory of our state,” he announced in a video on his official Telegram channel.

What does the Martial Law declared in Ukraine mean?

As long as martial law lasts, Normal civil functions of a state are left in the hands of military power.

This same Thursday Zelenski also announced the rupture of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Russia after the military aggression against Ukrainian territory ordered by the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin.

“This morning has gone down in history, but this history is absolutely different for our country and for Russia. We have severed diplomatic relations with Russia,” he said.

Russian attacks

Zelensky also stressed that the Ukrainian Army is engaged in “heavy fighting” throughout the national geography from “Donbas to other regions of the east, north and south.”

“The enemy has suffered heavy losses and will suffer even more. They have come to our land,” he said.

AND He stressed that the state bank and the Ukrainian financial system have “sufficient resources” to guarantee the defense of the state and “the interests of Ukrainian citizens.”

Earlier, the president ordered his army to cause “the greatest possible losses to the Russian invader” after attacks on several Ukrainian regions.

“The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces ordered to inflict the greatest possible losses on the invader,” the Army said in a statement. (I)
