Russia’s attack on Ukraine on maps: these are the cities bombed by Putin

Russian troops have landed in Odessa and there have been artillery shelling on the border after the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin to start a military operation in the Donbas region.

Several explosions are shaking cities in Ukraine, on this interactive map you can see where the bombings are taking place. In the beginning, the Russian army attacked nine regions, mostly military infrastructures, airports and airfields. The cities attacked so far have been the airport of Ivano-Frankivsk; the capital Kiev, Sloviansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odessa, Lugansk, Kherson and Kramatorsk. The following cities where the Russian army has arrived have been Lustk, Dnipro and Mariupol.

Some troops depart from the Crimean peninsula, which is shaded green on the map. This is due to the presence of the Russian army in Crimea, a region that Russia annexed in 2014, but which is not recognized by the international community.

airspace closure

Russia closes the airspace on the border with Ukraine. Likewise, Ukraine has decided to close the international airports of Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporozhye this Thursday night in reception and departure of flights from 8:35 p.m. (local time) to 8:35 a.m. (local time) on February 24, according to the daily ‘Zerkalo Nedeli’. In red you can see the closed airports and in green those that are not, but still no flights are leaving.
