At least two people were killed and several injured in an explosion Monday night on a bus near Kampala.
At least two people were killed and several injured in an explosion Monday night on a bus near Kampala, police said two days after an attack claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group in the Ugandan capital.
“A team of explosives specialists has been dispatched to Lungala, on the Kampala-Masaka highway, following the deadly explosion on a bus (…) at around 17:00 ″ (14:00 GMT), stated the Police spokesman Fred Enanga.
“So far the deaths of two people have been confirmed,” he says in the statement, in which he adds that several wounded are being evacuated.
“Access to the site was prohibited pending a thorough evaluation and investigation by explosives specialists,” he said. He did not give details about the causes of the explosion.
The balance was confirmed by the Swift Safaris company, which owns the bus.
“Two people were killed and several injured in an explosion that occurred in one of our buses connecting Kampala to western Uganda tonight,” he told the AFP Albert Akankwasa, one of the directors.
The city of Lungala is located about 35 km west of Kampala.
On Saturday night, a bomb attack caused one death and several injuries in a Kampala restaurant. The Police described it as an act of “internal terrorism”, but it was claimed on Monday by the Islamic State group in Central Africa (Iscap).
On October 8, Iscap claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on a police station in Kawempe, near where Saturday’s explosion occurred. (I)
