Biden gathers his security council in the face of accusations of attacks in Kiev and Donbas

The Ukrainian military and militias in eastern Ukraine have again launched accusations of violating the ceasefire after a resurgence of attacks in donbas in the last hours. According to the press center of the Joint Forces Operation of Ukraine, the separatists commit “repeated offenses” of the truce with heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements.

The recorded violations, according to a statement from the center on Facebook, reveal some preparations for “creating the conditions for a future climbing on the separation line” in Donbas, say the Ukrainian military, who this Saturday reported two casualties due to shrapnel wounds.

Kiev assures that it keeps the situation under control and “continues to carry out tasks to repel and contain” to the eastern militias. The Ukrainian military claims to follow the Minsk agreements and “only open fire when the actions of the Russian occupation forces represent a threat to the life and health of Ukrainian servicemen or civilians“.

In addition, according to Reuters, Ukraine has decided to suspend operations at one of the seven checkpoints in Donbas due to intense bombing, reports the Ukrainian army.

These facts, together with his concern about a Russian invasion “at any moment” of Ukraine, have made the president of the United States, Joe Bidenconvene this Sunday his national security council to address the crisis in Ukraine.

The White House spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, announced in a statement on Saturday afternoon that Biden has decided to convene that meeting “on the situation in Ukraine.” The president “regularly receives details about the situation on the ground” and his national security team is still of the opinion that “Russia could launch an attack against Ukraine at any moment,” Psaki stressed.

This Saturday, Biden was informed about the meetings he held during his visit to Munich the vice president of the United States, kamala harriswith the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyand the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyenamong others.

Biden assured this Friday that he is convinced that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will attack Ukraine and has “already made” that decision. The president insisted that Russia is seeking to create a pretext for that invasion and relies on disinformation to justify an attack on the neighboring country.

The European Union also expressed concern on Saturday about the possibility of Russia using “staged events” to justify a military escalation. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, also condemned in a statement “the use of heavy weapons and the indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas” in eastern Ukraine.

Lugansk could be left without mobile telephony and without internet

The mobile phone company of the Luhansk region, ‘Lugacom‘, has warned of a possible cut in mobile phone and internet service due to the escalation of the conflict with Ukraine that has led the region to declare a state of general mobilization.

“In compliance with the Decree of the Chief of on the announcement of the general mobilization and the decision of the Territorial Defense Headquarters, (…), and due to the current circumstances, in the near future, there may be a lack of mobile communication throughout the Republic,” says a statement from the telephone company.

The self-proclaimed republic of Luhansk announced this Saturday the general state of mobilizationwhich comes after the situation on the line of contact in eastern Ukraine — the front line between the Ukrainian military and the separatists — escalated on Thursday morning to culminate in a succession of ceasefire violations unprecedented in force in recent months.
