Mexican officials took advantage of a baptismal mass to capture an individual they presume is part of the Sinaloa cartel. This is José Brayan Salgueiro Zepeda, nicknamed 90.
According to official sources, the capture was recorded this Saturday, February 18 at 4:30 p.m., while a religious ceremony was taking place inside a Catholic church, located in the Las Quintas de Culiacán neighborhood, Sinaloa.
According to the Mexican newspaper Proceso, Brayan Salgueiro admitted to Chihuahua authorities that he was part of the criminal group “Los Salgueiro” led by the brothers Ruperto Salgueiro-Nevárez, José Salgueiro-Nevárez and Heriberto Salgueiro-Nevárez, alleged lieutenants of the Sinaloa cartel that control drug trafficking in Chihuahua.
The United States Department of Justice offers a reward of up to 5 million dollars for information leading to the location and capture of the Salgueiro-Névarez brothers, partners of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, “El Guano”, brother of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman.
At the time of his capture, the alleged member of the Sinaloa cartel was not armed and only an Apple cell phone was seized.
In accordance with US law, Aureliano Guzmán-Loera and the three Salgueiro-Nevárez brothers face several charges for international conspiracy to distribute marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl in the United States.
According to the United States Department of Justice, fentanyl is the substance responsible for more than 63% of the 96,779 drug overdose deaths that have been registered in that country between March 2020 and December 2021. (I)
