Russia has started to withdraw some military units close to the border with Ukrainewhile the Russian Parliament has asked President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, in eastern Ukraine, and are the center of a conflict between pro-Russian separatist forces and the Ukrainian Army.

The announcement about the return to the bases of the military deployed near the border has coincided with the Visit to Moscow of German Chancellor Olaf Scholzand his meeting with Putin.

The Russian leader has confirmed the partial withdrawal of troops before Scholz, but has stressed that Russia’s future steps will depend on the situation “on the ground”.

In addition, Putin has stated that Russia does not want a war in Europe: “Do we want war? Of course not.”

In addition, a few hours before his meeting with Scholz, the Duma, the lower house of parliament, approved a call to President Putin to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republicsin eastern Ukraine.

The tension around Ukraine has increased in recent months due to the deployment of Russian troops along the country’s border, which the international community has understood as a possible preparation for an “invasion”. Russia has denied these accusations. and has accused NATO of increasing military activity in the area.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, assured on Monday that he sees an agreement with the United States and NATO as possible if “Russia’s proposals” in terms of security “are heard”, although he urged continue trading. Moscow last week rejected the US and NATO response to its proposals.

Ukraine will believe the withdrawal when it sees it

For his part, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kulebahas been cautious about the information coming from Moscow in relation to the withdrawal of part of the Russian forces deployed near the Ukrainian border and has pointed out that, instead of trusting hearsay, will wait to “see” what really happens.

“There are different statements from the Russian Federation all time. We have a rule: we don’t believe it when we hear it, but when we see it,” she said at an online press conference.

In this sense, he assured that “different statements are constantly being made” from Russia, in comments to the media collected by the Ukrinform news agency.

Kuleba, meanwhile, continues with his contact list looking for support and this Tuesday he met with ambassadors from the EU Member States. “The unwavering support of partners allows Ukraine to be in a strong position and prepared for any scenario,” he defended, according to the Ministry.
