JetBlue buys 30 Airbus single-aisle A220 family aircraft

The US company JetBlue Airways signed a contract to purchase 30 A220-300 aircraft from Airbus, accumulating firm orders for 100 units of this single-aisle aircraft model.

The European aeronautical manufacturer highlighted this Tuesday in a statement that with this sale it accumulates orders for 740 aircraft of the A220 family, with capacity for between 100 and 150 passengers depending on the configuration.

JetBlue took delivery of the first A220-300 in April of last year and has so far added eight to its fleet, each with 140 seats.

Its CEO, Robin Hayes, said they have seen the “advantages” of these aircraft and are happy to add more to their operations in the near future.

“We’ve seen double-digit growth in customer satisfaction scores and the fuel efficiency of these aircraft continues to put us at the head of the pack in reducing carbon emissions,” added Hayes.

There are currently around fifteen airlines operating some 200 A220s on four continents.

Airbus did not give any indication about the amount of this latest contract with JetBlue and since 2018 it has not updated the catalog prices of its aircraft, which in any case did not correspond to what customers paid.

The value of an A220-300 is estimated at $91.5 million, based on price lists for that year. (I)
