Norway lifts latest coronavirus restrictions

This Saturday Norway lifted the latest restrictions to curb covid, suppressing social distancing slogans and the use of masks in crowded spaces, despite the increase in infections by the omicron variant.

“The distance meter is disappearing. We are going to remove the recommendation on social distancing,” Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store told a news conference.

“Now we can have social interactions like before” and mentioned nightlife, cultural events and commuting to work on buses, trains and ferries.

Norway had already lifted most of the restrictions due to the pandemic, such as teleworking or the limitation of capacity.

From now on, it will no longer be mandatory to isolate four days after testing positive for covid – this measure will only be a recommendation – and it will no longer be necessary to test children who have respiratory symptoms.

Since the start of the pandemic, Norway has recorded 986,851 cases of covid and 1,440 deaths linked to the pandemic. (I)
