Pedro Castillo’s fourth cabinet will work on the development of Peru’s regions

This Wednesday the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, announced that among the priorities of the new cabinet of ministers chaired by the jurist Aníbal Torres will be the promotion of the development of the regions and the decentralization of the country.

During a meeting with the regional governors of the country, held at the Government Palace in Lima, Castillo assured that the priorities that they raise will be in the general policy of the Government that Torres will present before Congress soon.

In this sense, the president ratified his administration’s commitment to the decentralization of the country and asked the prime minister to give priority to the regional authorities’ agenda.

He also assured that the appointment of Torres as president of the Council of Ministers “will deepen” the fight against citizen insecurity and asked the governors to submit proposals on this issue, as well as establish a joint work methodology to “break with centralism.” that exists in the public administration of your country.

The official also proposed “meetings of ministers with regional directors to prioritize the works, put together a work agenda with dates, commitments and responsibilities.”

During the meeting, Castillo said that another topic of joint work must refer to the infrastructure of the schools, to guarantee the return to face-to-face classes, paralyzed for two years by the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the purchase of local products for the programs. of social assistance.

On the other hand, he announced that in the following days he will travel to different locations in the country and hopes to hold the next session of the Council of Ministers in the southern Andean region of Puno, as well as others in the northern region of Tumbes, bordering Ecuador, and in Tacna, on the border with Chile.

Castillo said that he has come to the Government “with the purpose of serving the country” and rejected the accusation that there are “parallel instances” to the cabinet of ministers, as pointed out by people who have resigned from the Executive, such as former presidential secretary Carlos Jaico, who he spoke of a “shadow cabinet”.

“I completely reject it. They have said that we want to close Congress to stay in power, things like that come from the side of those who do not have the concerns of a governor in front of his people and do not want the great demands of the country to be prioritized,” he said. .

Castillo tried to alleviate the political crisis facing his government on Tuesday with the appointment of the cabinet of ministers chaired by Torres, the fourth in just over six months of management, while the opposition adds more and more voices in favor of his resignation.

Torres, who was Minister of Justice and Human Rights, replaced Congressman Héctor Valer, who resigned on Saturday, just four days after taking office pressured by numerous allegations of family violence against him.

The formation of the new cabinet was made official this Wednesday in the official newspaper A Peruvian man, while the Presidency announced meetings with the regional governors and, later, the first session of the cabinet.

The tense scenario led the political opposition, which dominates Congress, and some media outlets to launch requests for Castillo to resign, joined by the ombudsman, Walter Gutiérrez, who assured in an interview with the network CNN that he would “invite” the ruler “to resign”.

That resignation seems to be still a distant possibility, since the president himself assured on Monday that his commitment remains “firm” and “more strongly than ever until July 28, 2026”, when his term must end. (I)
