Three graduate students have sued the powerful Harvard University for their inaction: the prestigious institution would have allowed for years to be sexually harassed by John Comaroff, a renowned professor of Anthropology.
One of the victims, Amulya Mandava, has recounted that Professor threatened them with “repercussions” on their careers. Thus, taking advantage of his position, Comaroff would have tried to buy the silence of his victims.
Lilia Kilburn says that the professor he kissed her repeatedly against her will and that when she told him she was a lesbian, he told her that in Africa they would correct her by raping her in public.
Margaret Czerwienski, for her part, has ensured that the University remains “completely indifferent” in the face of the harm students face and that it will not take action unless it is “absolutely forced by external pressure”.
Harvard does not recognize physical bullying, but it does recognize verbal bullying by the professor, whom he has been banned from teaching until the next course. He categorically denies any accusation against him.
