British Defense Minister Ben Wallace announced on Monday the sending of 350 soldiers to Poland to support Warsaw in the face of the “threat” posed by both Russia and Belarus.
At a joint press conference in London with his Polish counterpart, Mariusz Blaszczak, Wallace explained that the contingent will be deployed under a bilateral agreement, outside NATO, and will join the hundred military engineerss that the British Government already sent in December to deal with the migration crisis on the Belarusian border.

Wallace and Blaszczak discussed during their meeting today about joint strategies to “stop” Russia’s advances in Eastern Europe and to address the steps they would take if Moscow launches an invasion into Ukrainian territory.
Taking that step would be “a stupid mistake,” said the British Minister of Defense, who stressed that Ukraine is a state “sovereign who has freely expressed his desire” to join NATO.

The Polish minister thanked the United Kingdom for its “rapid response” and its willingness to take “all the necessary decisions to restrain the potential aggressor” which represents Moscow.
“Based on historical experiences, only a determined deterrence policy can stop a possible Russian aggression,” Blaszczak said. (I)
