Russia today announced the suspension of the broadcasts of the German public channel “Deutsche Welle” after Germany banned broadcasts of the German-language Russian channel Russia Today (RT).
In addition, it closes the correspondent office of that channel in Russia and cancels the accreditations of all its employees, according to the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
the official note underlines that the competent bodies have initiated a process to declare the German chain a foreign agent and draw up a blacklist of those involved in the RT ban.

Those people, which includes German government officials, whose names will not be released, will be prohibited from entering Russian territory.
Russia considers “destructive” the steps taken to ban the broadcasts of RT and specifies that this is the first batch of response measures.
“Information on the next stages of response measures will be published in due course,” it adds.
The Commission for Media Supervision (ZAK) of Germany banned the broadcast of the RT program in German on Wednesday, considering that it lacked the corresponding license.
The German RT program began broadcasting on December 16 via satellite and the internet. In June 2021 the parent company TV Nóvosti had unsuccessfully sought to obtain a license in Luxembourg.
In December, however, the show was licensed in Serbia, which RT understood allowed it to be broadcast throughout Germany.
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, assured that this prohibition “is nothing more than an attack on freedom of expression.” (I)
