Matteo Salvini is once again at the center of the controversy in Italy: the far-right leader has now been accused of retouching a photograph with some of the members of his party, the League, to add the mask.
The image has generated a big buzz on social media, where the label “Photoshop” soon became the main trend on Twitter in the transalpine country. Given the controversy, Salvini himself has re-uploaded the photo to the aforementioned social network, alleging that the previous version appeared to be retouched because a filter had been used to improve its sharpness.
Salvini uploaded the photo of the controversy to Twitter this Monday, January 31: in it appears posing with 14 politicians from the League from Lombardy. “With the great team of the League in the Lombardy Region that, with the maximum commitment, does not lose sight of the objectives to work on: employment, health, public works, forward!” Salvini tweeted, accompanying the message with the image in question.
However, some users realized that the masks – which in Italy are mandatory outdoors and in closed public spaces to avoid contagion by COVID-19 – presented some anomalies. Thus, enlarging the photo that illustrates this news, it can be seen how in several cases they apparently do not have rubber or even let see the politician’s mouth or nose.
After the controversy that has been unleashed, Salvini has uploaded this Tuesday to his profile another version of the image -which you can see in the tweet below these lines-. “Error correction. Here the original photo without the “sharpness filter” that made faces appear on masks of those present”, he explained.
