The EU Heads of State and Government postpone the debate on the price of energy until December

At the European Council meeting, the EU countries have opted for dialogue to resolve the conflict with Poland.

The heads of State and Government of the European Union (EU) agreed this Thursday to continue reviewing the evolution of prices of energy market and to resume the debate at the December meeting of the European Council.

There is no consensus on the issue of rising energy prices among EU countries. Some are in favor of adopting urgent measures to deal with the situation, such as Spain and France, and others argue that the situation is temporary and it is only necessary to adopt measures to support households and companies.

What’s more, Heads of State and Government have asked the European Commission to consider “promptly” medium and long-term measures to make the price of energy “affordable” for homes and businesses.

On the other hand, the conflict with Poland has been another of the points of debate of the meeting of the European Council after the Constitutional Court of Poland said that the Constitution prevails over the law of the EU. However, EU leaders are committed to dialogue although they do not rule out activating legal mechanisms to expedite or sanction Poland.

Yesterday, Thursday, was predictably the last summit of the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
