Clement Beaune, France’s secretary of state for European affairs, said it was about the people, not where they came from. ‘We therefore focus much more on the individual situation of vaccinated or unvaccinated people – than on the epidemic of this or that EU country or region, and it is important to introduce more restrictions for unvaccinated people, said Beaune.

As emphasized by Euronews, the change in restriction is a response to the “significant increase” in vaccination levels, as well as the lower firepower of the omicron variant, and could mark one of the first steps towards a more flexible treatment of the pandemic.
