Two Canadian tourists killed and one wounded in shooting at a hotel in a Mexican resort

The events took place at the Xcaret hotel in Playa del Carmen.

Hours later, the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office reported on Twitter that a second Canadian, admitted to the hospital, had also died.

Regarding the first person who lost his life, the Prosecutor’s Office said “he had criminal record: drug trafficking, false identity use, among others”, while confirming “the death of another person who was injured”, who also had a “criminal record” in his country.

The person in charge of security in the state published a third message with images of one of those responsible, who was brandishing a weapon and said that he was the one who shot the Canadian guests.

So far, the three Canadian tourists involved in the armed confrontation have only been identified as Jessica, 29, and Thomas and Robert, both 34, the first lost his life while being transferred by ambulance and the second died in hospital.
