Several companies in the United Kingdom will give lower compensation for sick leave to those not vaccinated against COVID-19

Millions of Britons are contact cases of covid-positive people.

Some companies in the UK such as Next, Ikea, Morrisons, Ocado, will give lower sick leave benefits to their unvaccinated employees forced into self-isolation due to covid-19, to encourage them to do so and reduce costs related to the pandemic .

Swedish furniture giant Ikea stresses in a statement that for virus-related absences, “vaccinated or unvaccinated employees who have particular reasons such as pregnancy or other medical reasons will receive their full pay.”

On the contrary, those not vaccinated without medical justification will receive only the legal minimum SPP (Statutory Sick Pay), which is lower.

Contacted by AFP, the clothing chain Next, the food distributor Ocado and Morrisons supermarkets told AFP that they will give the sick pay in force in the company to all employees who test positive for covid-19, but only the minimum (SSP) to the unvaccinated who must be isolated because they are contact cases, with exceptions.

With the omicron variant that is highly contagious, millions of British people are contact cases of covid-positive people. (I)
