Ecuador dismisses four managers of state electricity and oil companies due to drop in crude production

Ecuador He dismissed the managers of three electricity companies and one oil company, all state-owned, due to failures in the supply of the service that resulted in the loss of some US $ 44,000 barrels of crude, informed the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Bermeo.

“It is regrettable that, despite the efforts of the Government, there are entities and officials that demonstrate a negligent attitude towards the development of the country, since oil resources serve to meet urgent needs,” the official said in a statement.

The four managers, including that of Petroecuador’s Exploration and Production, were removed from their positions after an “analysis of the technical reports of the electrical failure registered in recent days and that caused the loss of 31,000 barrels of oil,” according to his portfolio. .

“Additionally, there was a new incident in the oil operations of the Amazon that caused a drop of 13,000 more barrels in production,” he added.

The dollarized economy of Ecuador is in crisis aggravated by the effects of the pandemic and depends on the export of crude.

Between January and August of this year, Ecuador exploited some 498,000 barrels per day (bd), the majority in charge of Petroecuador.

Of that production, the nation exported 70% (about 346,000 bd), which generated around US $ 4,992 million (at an average price of US $ 59.35 per barrel).

President Guillermo Lasso, who took office in May, plans to double oil exploitation during his four-year government amid the fierce rejection of indigenous sectors to the tender for fields in Amazonian territories.
