Colombia reduces the waiting time to apply booster doses against COVID-19 to four months

The measure is given before the advance of the omicron variant in the country.

Given the increase in cases with the omicron variant in Colombia, President Iván Duque decided to reduce the waiting time for the application of booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In an address, the president said that those over 18 who “have had the application of two doses, or a single dose in the case of Janssen, will be able to apply the booster doses, no longer waiting six months, but four months after having received their vaccination schedule ”.

He also mentioned that the variant is highly contagious, but that due to vaccination it has not exponentially increased deaths or hospital care.

In Colombia, about 76% of the population had a single dose of the vaccine and about 57% had two doses. In addition to four million they already had the booster dose.

Another measure that was released was that those who present symptoms must have a seven-day isolation. For those who are asymptomatic and not vaccinated and had close contact with a person with symptoms, they should also be isolated.

Those who had COVID-19 will be able to apply the vaccine 30 days after having passed the isolation. (I)
