Maersk shipping group expects cargo transport delays to persist

Container shipping company AP Moller-Maersk warned its customers that it continues to have problems transporting goods around the world as decongestion is taking longer than the Danish company expected.

The pandemic has led to container ship shortages and port jams at a time of high consumer spending, meaning hundreds of container ships are idle outside ports.

“Unfortunately, 2022 has not started as we expected,” Maersk said in a notice posted on its website.

“The pandemic continues and, unfortunately, we are seeing new outbreaks that affect our ability to move its cargo,” he said, adding that he expects the limitations to continue “for some time yet.”

The longest wait times for container ships to unload or pick up cargo were on the west coast of the United States, where the wait time at the port of Long Beach in Los Angeles is currently between 38 and 45 days, Maersk said. .

However, he noted that there had recently been a decline in northern Europe, where the Belgian port of Antwerp was expected to cut the wait to around two days this week, up from 10 days the week before.
