North Korea reportedly launched a new projectile into the sea, according to South Korean armed forces

The launch came after six countries, including the United States and Japan, urged North Korea to cease “destabilizing actions.”

North Korea launched an “unidentified projectile” into the East Sea, the South Korean armed forces were quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency, less than a week after Pyongyang tested a hypersonic missile.

The launch was also reported by the Japanese coast guard, who indicated that it was a “missile-like object.”

“The (South Korean) Joint Chiefs of Staff announced the launch in a text message to journalists without giving details,” Yonhap said.

The launch came after six countries, including the United States and Japan, urged North Korea to cease “destabilizing actions” ahead of a UN Security Council meeting to discuss testing the missile that Pyongyang called “hypersonic.” .

At a meeting of the ruling North Korean party in December, leader Kim Jong Un pledged to continue to strengthen the North Korean military apparatus.

Under his command, the country has seen rapid advancement in military technology, for which it faces international sanctions.

In 2021, North Korea said it successfully tested a new type of submarine-launched ballistic missile, a train-launched weapon, and the hypersonic warhead.
