Death toll rises to 10 after falling rocky wall on boats in Brazil

The number of deceased at serious accident that occurred on Saturday in a lake in BrazilAfter a huge rocky wall fell on some tourist boats, it rose from eight to ten, official sources reported this Sunday.

The Fire brigade pointed out that rescue teams they located the bodies of the last two missing reported in the area of ​​the accident, which took place in the municipality of Capitólio, state of Minas Gerais (southeast).

In addition to the ten deceased, there were about thirty injured, the majority mild, although four of them needed to be hospitalized.

The disaster, which was recorded with the cell phones of other travelers who were in the place, the Saturday around noon (local time), when a huge rock fell off the canyon wall and rushed over four boats who sailed through the furnas lake, according to videos posted on social networks.

Moments before the detachment, the boats that were affected they tried unsuccessfully to get away from the canyon wall, between the warnings of the people who were in the boats around and as the rock structure began to crack.

The firefighters initially reported that there were 20 missing, although hours later they reduced that number to just three when contacting the vast majority of them.

Commander Giuvaine Barbosa, of the Minas Gerais Fire Department, indicated at a press conference that the searches will continue to fully recover the bodies of the three victims found this Sunday and stressed that they are not working with the possibility of more missing persons.

The ten deceased were in the same boat, named Jesus, at the time of the accident, as explained Marcos Pimenta, commissioner of the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, in statements to journalists.

Pimenta also revealed that they are having serious difficulties in identifying the victims due to the impact brutality.

Members of the Fire Department, Police, Navy and Civil Defense, in an operation with more than 50 soldiers, of which 11 are divers with knowledge of the region and specialized in rescue actions.

Authorities suspect that heavy rainfall of the last days in the region they pressed the canyon walls, formed by sedimentary rocks that have a lower resistance to inclement weather, which ultimately could have caused the glide.

The place where the accident occurred is a very touristy point of Capitol, a city located about 280 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais (Southeast), and famous for its natural beauties and its impressive gorges, which can be visited through boat travel.
