Chile’s copper export value rises 21.9% in December and jumps 40.6% in the year

The value of Chilean copper exports rose in December amid the strong performance of global copper prices, the Central Bank of Chile reported.

The valuation of shipments of the red metal rose 21.9% year-on-year to US $ 4.914 million in the twelfth month, while in 2021 it reached a total of US $ 53.424 million, an increase of 40.6% compared to the previous year.

Copper prices hit all-time highs in 2021 supported by expectations of a strong recovery in the world economy after the coronavirus pandemic.

However, some experts believe that the metal will perform weaker this year due to an increase in the global supply of supply.

In Chile, the world’s largest producer of the red metal, there are global giants such as state-owned Codelco, BHP, Glencore, Anglo American, Freeport McMoRan and Antofagasta.
