France identifies a new variant of covid-19

The IHU variant of the coronavirus contains 46 mutations, more than omicron. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified IHU as a “variant of interest”, but not “of concern”.

The University Hospital Institute of Marseille has identified a new variant of coronavirus named IHU, with more mutations than omicron. It is a variant derived from another whose first cases had been detected in the Republic of the Congo last September.

While the Marseille University Hospital Institute made the discovery a month ago, it has not been released until now.

At the moment, there are a dozen cases in France.
