The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was hospitalized Monday with an intestinal blockage but was stable, the hospital said in a statement.
The president’s office previously said he was suffering from abdominal pain.
The Vila Nova Star hospital in Sao Paulo said in its note that the president was admitted in the early hours of Monday for an intestinal obstruction.
“He is stable, undergoing treatment and will be reassessed this morning by the team of Dr. Antonio Luiz de Vasconcellos Macedo. At the moment there is no forecast on when he will be able to be discharged”, He indicated.
The Brazilian television network Globo showed images of Bolsonaro descending the stairs of the presidential plane after landing in Sao Paulo at around 01:30 (0430 GMT) in the morning. He was later transferred to the Vila Nova Star hospital, according to Globo.
Bolsonaro has been hospitalized several times since he was stabbed during his presidential campaign in 2018. In July 2021, he was taken to Vila Nova Star Hospital due to an intestinal blockage after suffering chronic hiccups.
Bolsonaro was on vacation in the southern state of Santa Catarina.
